Course Description

This 3 POST approved and CE beginning to intermediate level home study course is designed for psychologists and other mental health professionals interested in understanding the second-opinion psychological evaluation process for peace officer positions. This CE discusses the basic foundations for the second-opinion process of law enforcement candidates, how the second-opinion psychological evaluation process differs from the primary preemployment psychological evaluation, common challenges inherent to the second-opinion evaluations such as inconsistent selection criteria across hiring agencies, the referral process for second-opinion evaluations, and other topics involved in the second-opinion evaluation process such as informed consent. This CE will also discuss ethical and legal guidelines to help psychological evaluators understand the ethical and legal obligations and risks inherent to the second-opinion process.
